Royer Cooper Cohen Braunfeld LLC Welcomes Marc E. Hirschfield and Marc Skapof

RCCB Expands New York Presence with the Formation of a Business Restructuring & Bankruptcy Practice Group

Royer Cooper Cohen Braunfeld LLC (RCCB), a law firm offering a distinctive combination of practical business acumen, legal expertise and entrepreneurial passion, is pleased to announce the addition of two new Partners, Marc E. Hirschfield and Marc Skapof.

Partners Hirschfield and Skapof will reside in the RCCB New York City office. The new office, located at 1120 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan, marks the firm’s fourth location across three states.

“I am excited to bring RCCB’s unique brand and entrepreneurial spirit to our clients in the New York region and beyond,” said Marc Hirschfield. “In addition to expanding our presence in the New York market, the formation of our Business Restructuring and Bankruptcy Group allows the RCCB team to provide our clients nationwide with additional sophisticated service offerings.”

Both Hirschfield and Skapof join RCCB from Baker & Hostetler LLP, a national law firm. They bring years of experience with insolvency and reorganization matters, and both focus on bankruptcy, business restructuring, creditors’ rights, litigation, and debt finance. Additionally, Hirschfield is a court-certified mediator and is appointed to mediation panels formed by the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the District of Delaware and for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Their history of providing trusted legal counsel while empowering the ambitions of their clients makes them great fits for the new Business Restructuring & Bankruptcy Group, and RCCB as a whole.

“The firm’s new group has a strong foundation led by Hirschfield and Skapof,” said Roger Braunfeld, Partner. “We are excited to expand the breadth of our multi-disciplinary team of attorneys to include this particular area of law, and it is a great complement to our deep corporate and litigation practices.”

In their practices, Hirschfield and Skapof represent debtors, debtor-in-possession lenders, secured and unsecured creditors, and creditors’ committees, purchasers and sellers of distressed debt, and asset acquirers in both out-of-court workouts and bankruptcy cases. They have worked on cross-border insolvency cases in many countries including Canada, Australia, Bermuda, and the British Virgin Islands.

Hirschfield brings bankruptcy experience from his previous role as a partner at Baker Hostetler, and prior to that, Ropes & Gray LLP and Dewey Ballantine LLP. Following law school, Hirschfield worked as a Law Clerk in the United States District Court for the Western District of New York.

Hirschfield earned his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law, magna cum laude, and his B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, from the State University of New York at Binghamton. Hirschfield is admitted to practice law in New York, Connecticut, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Southern and Western Districts of New York. He was recognized by ChambersUSA as a leading Bankruptcy/Restructuring attorney from 2010 to 2014, and was named a New York “Super Lawyer” from 2011 through present.

Skapof was most recently Counsel at Baker Hostetler, and before that, an Associate at Jones Day, Ropes & Gray LLP, and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP.

Skapof earned his J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law Order of the Coif, his M.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his B.A., magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Carleton College. Skapof is admitted to practice law in New York, Illinois, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Wisconsin, and U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York. He was named a New York Metro “Super Lawyer” in 2014 and 2015.

“I look forward to the opportunities that will arise with the formation of Royer Cooper Cohen Braunfeld’s Business Restructuring & Bankruptcy Group in conjunction with the opening of RCCB’s New York City office,” said Marc Skapof. “RCCB’s corporate, financing and litigation platforms present a terrific opportunity to deliver sophisticated business oriented solutions to debtors, creditors, lenders and borrowers in even the most challenging situations.”
